So out comes the secret of the century! What do you have to do to transform your climbing?
- Warm up, Practice climbing, Cool down. Lather, rinse, repeat as often as possible.
- Work on your flexibility, strength and endurance in innovative ways and try to have company – its more fun, so you are more likely to stay with it.
- Show off – its excellent motivation and the stakes get higher.
- Focus on your fingertips, toes pick up heavy stuff with your fingers or walk around on your toes like a ballerina
- Push your limits
- Focus on technique – watch videos, work on difficult moves specifically, request fellow climbers to watch your technique, use a camera….. The means are many. The idea is to become aware of how you move and experiment with options that allow you to move more efficiently.
- Mimicry! This is one of the strongest tools to learn anything. Mimic moves from climbers you admire, and practice till you could mimic the climber perfectly, and voila, your own abilities have expanded.
- Fool around. Challenge friends to games on the rock face.
- Visualize. Take a minute before beginning climbing to visually climb the surface and work out the moves you’d like to use. This increases your readiness during the climb, saves time and strength, and enables you to arrive at a hold in a posture that lets you move quickest to the next.
- Practice, practice, practice. The greater your comfort zone is, the better you can climb.
