monsoon As usual, the chief purpose of these getaways is to provide welcome relief from the continually damp and muddy city, and go out and celebrate the weather and get wet and muddy. You can expect being drenched in the heavy downpours of this region, walk through bright greenery, bathe in every waterfall small and big o要 the way, and in general, have a hilarious time. These fantastic outings will be a weekly feature covering some of the most amazing terrain in the Sahyadri, in a series of hikes. Currently in our plans are:

Kondana Caves on the 18th of JuneA group of ancient Hinayana Buddhist Caves complete with carvings and a huge stupa flanked with the octagonal pillars so typical of that period. The caves have a curtain of water at their entrance in the monsoons.

Naneghat o要 the 1st and 2nd of JulyThe ancient pass between the Deccan and the Konkan, very much in use even today.

Gorakh - Macchindra o要 the 15th and 16th JulyA classic hiking destination in the Malshej ghat region. Easy hike and pleasant stay. Open for all age groups, but please be prepared to walk, and carry your own load, plus a share from the common rations o要 the way (will not be anything very heavy)

Karnala on the 30th of JulyThe sanctuary, while small (4.8 sq. km) is a delight for bird watchers all through the year, and is home to some 150 resident species and over 35 species of migratory birds.

Peth Fort of Kothaligad on the 6th of August

Peb - Matheran o要 the 19th and 20th of August

Lohagad o要 the 27th of AugustStay tuned to this page to turn dreary monsoons into an exciting adventure!
