Programmes for students
Programmes for students are categorised chiefly according to duration and purpose. Durations range from one day programmes, to overnight hikes, camps and even Himalayan tours requiring two weeks or so. Purposes are chiefly Experiential Learning, Wilderness and nature and adventure sports training.
One day programmes for experiential education focus on an understanding of self and the process of reinforcing desired behaviour and changing undesirable ones based on results from them. Locations for such programmes can vary and these programmes can even happen in the school itself, provided that sufficient open space for activities is available.
One day adventure programmes can happen at a variety of suitable locations at a convenient distance from the school. Locations vary according to the desired activities to cover. The module basically focuses on imparting an experience of the adventure sport chosen, as well as acquainting participants with the choices they have if they desire to pursue their interests in that direction.
One day wilderness programmes focus on a variety of experiences related with being in the outdoors amid nature. Nature trails, birdwatching trips, orienteering, survival information and such skills related with the outdoors form the content of these programmes.
Camps for experiential learning usually take place over a duration of 2-3 days in a location with reasonably comfort oriented facilities for accommodation. Specific areas of concern can be detailed by the school to be addressed in such programmes. benifits of such programmes include increased motivation levels, understanding of discipline, assertiveness, conflict management and awareness of the effect of behaviour on a personal and inter-personal level.
Camps for adventure education take place on forts or other locations with access to sites for specific adventure sports that are on the syllabus of the programme. Introductory training on a variety of adventure sports encourages an attitude of self-confidence and expanding personal abilities among students, while providing a highly exciting and adventuresome experience.
Wilderness camps involve staying in tents or caves and avoid areas with human inhabitation. The idea is to live on the basics and in harmony with nature, while learning the essential knowledge needed in sustaining such a life. Content includes selecting a location for a stay, setting up a safe camp, stocking it with essential supplies, plants and animals that could be useful, information on risks and natural dangers from insects, snakes etc., understanding weather and many other subjects related with the process of living as a part of nature. These camps assist in an attitude of self-responsibility, understanding of eoclogy, interest in the environment and knowledge of other life-forms and their significance to humans.
Apart from these, we also conduct several other adventurous trips for student groups, which are adapted from similar tours for adults. Himlayan treks, tours to wildlife sanctuaries, study tours for the purposes of observation of societies (tribal), industries (factories), environments (desert, forests), structures (dams) and other subjects which might specifically supplement syllabus can easily be designed to suit the abilities and requirements of specific groups.
